Overview
In this position you will develop custom hardware in support of volume OEM deployment of PHYTEC SoMs based on ARM9, ARM11, ARM Cortex A8/A9, Intel ATOM and other embedded processors. This hardware will be based on customer specifications, drawing from our standard SOM and Carrier Board designs, as well as other applicable circuitry libraries and reference designs. You will work on all aspects of the solution lifecycle including: initial design requirements and specifications, schematic capture, board bring-up and validation, parallel test fixture planning and development, and approval for release to manufacturing. In addition to close collaboration with PHYTEC hardware engineers and product managers, this position interacts with PHYTEC customers as well as third-party solution vendors.
Primary Duties
- Specify and develop board-level circuitry (using Mentor Graphics DxDesigner) and applicable test hardware per applicable PHYTEC Design Rules, customer requirements, DFM, DFT, cost objectives, development milestones and other applicable considerations
- Liaison with Project Manager, Development Manager and/or Contract Manufacturing personnel in all steps in the development process
- Develop comprehensive product test fixtures for serial production of custom hardware and/or PHYTEC SoMs
- Document and maintain test process to enable use of product test fixtures by PHYTEC test department personnel
- Develop software routines and modules for standard functional and electrical test of custom hardware and PHYTEC SoMs
- Engage in manual test and bring-up of prototype PHYTEC SoMs, as needed, prior to completion of serial production test fixtures and processes
Other Duties (as needed)
- Provide prompt response to customer technical support and/or sales inquiries on PHYTEC SoMs and related hardware and software products (via e-mail, telephone, online Knowledge Base, and site visits)
- Assist with readying new Rapid Development Kits (RDK) for market, as well as maintaining existing products
- Liaison with development engineers, sales engineers and Documentation Manager to create, review, and maintain product documentation, to include: Application Notes, QuickStart Instructions, and Hardware Manuals
- Engage in other technical, sales, support, marketing, trade show and administrative duties, as necessary
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Schematic capture and C/C++ programming abilities
- 3 – 5 years work experience as a hardware design engineer
- board-level subassembly design experience with 32-board processors; including: memory bus, power management, GPIO and peripheral interface (Ethernet, USB, serial, LCD/LVDS) support circuitry
- Familiarity with debugging and test equipment, tools and methodologies
- Ability to quickly learn new development tools and programming skills for a variety of platforms
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Capability to work both independently and within a small team environment
- Flexibility, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a high energy work environment

- Multiple hardware platform experience (in particular ARM and XScale)
