The Senior IP Telephony Engineer will design, implement, and handle on-going maintenance of the IP backbone in a fast paced VoIP Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP) environment. The IP backbone is a highly complex, multi-site network and requires Softswitch (e.g. Freeswitch, Broadsoft), Cisco, Kagoor, Juniper, Covergence, etc. expertise and routing design expertise including BGP and OSPF. The Senior IP Telephony Engineer will identify and evaluate new equipment solutions, configure and turn up new softswitch centers (US and Abroad), core routers, and maintain backbone and router port capacity in the core network. Additional responsibilities include working internally with a team to support the network operations staff in highly technical trouble isolation and resolution. Some system maintenance and upgrades will occur during established off-hour maintenance windows. Travel to remote offices will be required when emergency repairs or network upgrades are done. Constant review of existing network practices for improvement and execution of necessary improvements is expected, including implementation of a full network monitoring and reporting plan and execution. Requirements
– BS in an Engineering discipline (Communications preferred); MS preferred
– Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
– 5+ IP Telephony & IP Backbone engineering in a complex VoIP ITSP network
– 3+ years of hands on experience designing and building large scale, multi-site, highly available VOIP & IP networks
– Ability to follow multiple simultaneous projects to completion with minimal supervision
– Extensive experience with softswitch implementations and Cisco, and preferably Juniper, Extreme, and Alcatel data networking equipment
– Expert level knowledge of BGP and OSPF implementation and configuration
– Routing policy expertise including the use of (BGP) route-maps, communities, route-reflectors, and controlled route injection and (OSPF) costs, LSA filtering, access-lists, best practices
– Spanning Tree, VLAN design, broadcast storm control, loop avoidance
– Familiar with telecommunications equipment in relation to IP Telephony and data networking
– Hands-on experience with VOIP gateways and Softswitches (Freeswitch, Broadsoft)
– Hands-on experience with network management/debug tools (OpNet, Splunk, etc.)
– Ability to travel
