General Job Description:
Mid-level engineer responsible for performing a wide range of tasks for the FAA’s Terminal Automation Organization. Understanding of systems used in the program management for the acquisition of major systems used nationally for Air Traffic Control Towers and Terminal Radar Approach Control facilities. Interfaces and coordinates with FAA Program and Project Managers, technical and business specialists, commercial vendors, and Washington D.C. support personnel. Performs program management and business case development functions for Terminal Automation Systems. Involved in planning for the migration of existing air-to-ground and ground-to-air data communications systems to future generation systems. In that regard, attends and participates in recurring and diverse planning meetings. Performs investment analysis planning and general written assessments and analyses in response to tasks. Job sometimes requires preparation and coordination of documentation for the FAA’s Joint Resource Council (JRC) or Acquisition Management System. Provides support that transitions existing discrete architectures to common platforms. At a minimum, possesses a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, or computer) from an accredited college or university.
A minimum of 10 years experience in system engineering-related fields, and a college degree in industrial, system, or electronic engineering is required, or a degree in a related computer science field. Experience with air-to-ground and ground-to-air data systems highly desired. Experience with business-related acquisition of IT systems is a plus as is familiarization with the FAA’s Acquisition Management System. Experience with hardware and software systems acquisition, integration and deployment of FAA automation programs or other IT, communications, or aviation systems is highly desirable. Strong organizational and both verbal and written communications skills required. Ability to plan and operate independently with minimum supervision is a plus. Good MS Office product skills are highly desirable.
