Individual should have 8+ years of experience with engineering of flight avionics equipment. Certification knowledge should include FAA DO-160/DO-178 or DOD equivalents. Education and hands-on design in a core engineering discipline (EE, SW, ME, AERO) and a proven track record of taking an aviation product through STC required. Piloting background desired. 

Individual should have 4+ years of management experience in the aviation industry. Skills should include hiring of engineering personnel, cost/schedule planning, and strong technical leadership. Fluency with MS Office and MS Project desired.

Organizational Role:

Candidate will work as a task team member performing in a mission-critical environment. This position will be based out of the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD and will be responsible for leading or participating in network design efforts as well as the upgrade, maintenance, performance, and general operation of our infrastructure environment. The individual is responsible for maintaining and/or improving system performance and coordinating with the System Administrator Team Lead to complete Center-assigned security tasks.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

Participate in and/or lead efforts for network and system design as part of ongoing reengineering efforts
Participate in and/or lead efforts for server and workstation hardware installation, maintenance, problem resolution, failure recovery, performance tuning, configuration, and optimization issues
Participate in and/or lead efforts for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems software, applications, application development environments, and utilities
Maintain interoperability between servers, workstations, and other network devices in a multi-server, multi-operating system environment consisting of HP-UX UNIX, Windows, and Linux.
Coordinate and monitor the setup and operation of network printer services using multiple servers, queues, and operating systems
Ensure system configuration and operation are thoroughly documented
Identify potential service level problems before they occur and recommends and/or implements solutions
Rotating on-call support for emergency situations.
Support GSFC/NASA during vulnerability scanning and coordinate with System Administrators to correct any findings

Required Skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or a corresponding number of years experience in a similar or related position. (Six (6) yrs of general experience is considered equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree, Four (4) yrs of general experience + BS/BA is equivalent to a Master’s Degree.)
Experience designing, implementing, upgrading and maintaining networks and system solutions in a mixed Windows, UNIX, and LINUX environment containing workstations, servers, high performance storage and high performance networks
In depth hardware knowledge: server architecture, CPU, memory, power supply, configuring and installing SCSI devices, workstation hardware, internal modules and general troubleshooting
Expert knowledge level in the Windows, UNIX, and LINUX operating systems
Needs to be a self-motivated person and team player.
Ability to communicate effectively and present results to both technical and non-technical staff and management at all levels.
Ability to prioritize, organize and work independently
Superb customer service skills
In-depth knowledge of software installation/upgrade techniques, problem identification and resolution is required
Knowledge of MS Windows Server 2000/2003, Windows XP, Active Directory, HP-UX 11i (PA-RISC & Itanium), and Red Hat LINUX
Knowledge of data communications TCP/IP, DNS, IPX/SPX, FTP

Responsible for analyzing and validating the flight environments (vibration, acoustics, vibro-acoustics, and shock) for the launch vehicles and their payloads.
Determine the flight environments for a mission, defining test plans for hardware qualification to these environments, and witnessing these tests and/or evaluating the test results.
Perform reviews of launch service provider documents and make technical assessments of relevant issues that arise during the integration process.
Maintain frequent communication with payload and launch vehicle counterparts and work to solve any problems or issues in a timely manner.
